Fonds d’Entretien Routier Autonome (FERA), mission is to ensure the sustainable and transparent financing of road infrastructure to preserve the national road network and support economic and social development . Its first critical task is mobilizing financial resources from diverse sources, including a parafiscal tax on petroleum products, budget allocations, toll fees, and axle load taxes . FERA uses these funds to finance both routine and periodic maintenance, emergency repairs, and road safety improvements across the country . FERA administers specific programs, such as the recruitment of local agents for manual maintenance and the financing of initiatives to modernize public transport, like the recent project to deploy hybrid taxis . By channeling funds to execution agencies like the Road Works and Management Agency (AGEROUTE) and local authorities, FERA acts as the financial backbone for preserving Senegal’s road assets.
