The African Road Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) and the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating digital transformation, strengthening capacity building, and fostering innovation within Africa’s road sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by William Baraza, Director of AFRALTI, and Dr. Alkassoum ALI, Executive Secretary of ARMFA-AFERA, establishes a collaborative framework focused on ICT integration, research, and skills development. The partnership is designed to enhance efficiency, governance, transparency, and accountability in road infrastructure management across the continent.

Leveraging Digital Innovation for Smarter Road Management

As Africa’s road networks continue to expand to support economic growth and regional integration, the need for modern, data-driven management systems has become increasingly critical. Through this partnership, ARMFA and AFRALTI will work together to integrate digital technologies into road fund management systems, improve monitoring and evaluation processes, and strengthen institutional performance.

By harnessing ICT solutions, the collaboration seeks to improve financial oversight, optimize maintenance planning, and ensure sustainable preservation of road assets.

Strengthening Skills and Institutional Capacity

Capacity development remains central to the agreement. AFRALTI’s expertise in telecommunications and digital technologies complements ARMFA’s leadership in road maintenance financing and policy coordination. Together, the two institutions will promote professional training, knowledge exchange, and research initiatives tailored to the evolving needs of Africa’s infrastructure sector.

This initiative will equip road sector professionals with the technical skills and tools necessary to implement innovative solutions and adapt to emerging technologies.

A Shared Vision for Sustainable Infrastructure

The partnership underscores a shared commitment to building smarter, more resilient road systems across Africa. By combining digital transformation with strong governance principles, ARMFA and AFRALTI aim to contribute to sustainable infrastructure development that supports economic growth, connectivity, and long-term prosperity.

Through collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing, this strategic alliance marks a significant step toward modernizing Africa’s road sector and strengthening institutional frameworks for the future.
